Jim Evridge

President of Statewide Machinery

I’m a South Dakota native, but my heart truly belongs to Alaska. With over 35 years of experience in Alaskan machinery, I’ve seen it all.

You might recognize me from my days as the owner/operator of Jim’s Equipment Repair. National Geographic even featured me on their show, “Big Fix Alaska.” That aside, it’s my “never give up” attitude that defines me. When a job needs doing, I roll up my sleeves and get it done, no matter the challenge.

Katie Shears

I was born in Soldotna, AK, surrounded by the rugged beauty of Alaska. In 2018, I made the move to Dillingham, where I’ve found a sense of community and purpose. Currently, I’m pursuing my passion for biomedical engineering at Michigan Technological University.

When I’m not buried in textbooks or attending lectures, you’ll find me wearing multiple hats. At work, I serve as the parts runner, accounting clerk, and all-around go-to person. Whether it’s organizing inventory, crunching numbers, or lending a helping hand, I thrive on the hustle.

I have a natural knack for business and enjoy bringing creative solutions to the table.   I look forward to what the future brings.  Life’s full of surprises, and I’m ready to embrace them all!

Originally coming from Florida, I have nurtured a lifelong passion for mechanics, beginning with the assembly of hot rods, buggies, Toyotas, and Jeeps since childhood. My journey led me to Colorado where I built a successful career, initially constructing multi-million dollar homes in Aspen alongside my father from a young age. Subsequently, I transitioned to the oilfield, gaining valuable experience on drilling rigs before pursuing higher education in Walla Walla, WA. There, I completed rigorous programs in automotive repair and Diesel Technology at WWCC, earning dual associates of applied science degrees in 2012.

Over the past twelve years, I have dedicated myself to full-time work in heavy equipment and automotive sectors. Relocating to Soldotna, Alaska with my family marked a significant chapter, where we expanded with the arrival of two more daughters during our six-year residence. Following a period in Colorado, I am now focused on returning to Alaska permanently with my wife of six years. Currently exploring property options on the peninsula, I am enthusiastic about reestablishing myself in Alaska and continuing to pursue my passion.

Originating from Louisiana, specifically Cajun heritage, I spent my formative years immersed in the swamps, engaged in farming, fishing, and hunting. Growing up in such an environment naturally led me to develop mechanical skills from an early age. I pursued formal education at UTI in Houston, Texas, earning certifications in Diesel and Automotive repair. My professional journey commenced as a Head mechanic for a delivery fleet, followed by a distinguished tenure as a Senior Master Diesel Technician at Ford Motor Company spanning over 15 years. Transitioning due to industry changes, I dedicated a decade to locomotive diesel mechanics for a Class 1 railroad.

Driven by a desire for the rugged beauty of Alaska, I relocated and have spent the past five years here, finding fulfillment in the challenges and opportunities the state offers. Alaska has captured my heart, and I am committed to making it my permanent home.

I have a deep-rooted connection to Alaska, having grown up in its rural landscapes since the age of 3, residing in diverse communities such as Barrow, Kotzebue, Dillingham, Naknek, and King Salmon. Originally from Washington, I met my husband there and have been happily married since 2013, celebrating 11 years together. As the youngest of five siblings, I embraced the role of being the baby of the family while also raising a wonderful brood of five children—four boys and one girl.

Professionally, I bring a wealth of experience as an Office Manager, combining my organizational skills with a passion for fostering a productive work environment. Beyond the office, I find joy in gardening and spending time outdoors with my children, nurturing a love for nature and exploration in our family.

Nick

I am from a rural town in Northern Michigan. Growing up on a farm instilled in me a strong work ethic, caring for livestock and learning to repair equipment from a young age. Beginning my career as a welder, I quickly expanded my skills to include equipment maintenance and repair, driven by a need for efficiency and reliability.

My journey into welding started through the guidance of a family friend, leading me from basic maintenance to tackling heavy repairs independently. Seeking broader opportunities, I moved to Virginia to specialize in structural steel construction, a role I fulfilled for three years before transitioning to entrepreneurship. Establishing my own welding service from a mobile truck, I provided on-site solutions tailored to client needs.

Returning to my roots on the family farm in Michigan, I adapted to local demand by diversifying into machining, an endeavor I pursued for several years. Eventually, I founded my own successful company, which continues to thrive after five years of operation. Outside of work, I enjoy a variety of hobbies including fishing, hunting, motorcycling, horseback riding, and hiking. A motto that guides my work ethic is, "If we take our time, it shouldn't take too long," reflecting my commitment to efficiency and quality in every endeavor.

Born and raised in Zimbabwe, I began my journey into the world of mechanics after completing an apprenticeship at the age of 24. I later moved to South Africa, where I have resided ever since. My family is deeply rooted in South Africa, with my mother being South African and my father from Zimbabwe. I am one of seven siblings.

My path into mechanics was paved by my educational pursuits. While striving to meet entry requirements for higher education, I studied accounting, geography, and economics. Ultimately, I pursued a career in heavy equipment, undergoing a rigorous four-year apprenticeship that included a year of formal schooling followed by practical and trade certifications. My initial eight-year tenure with Broline Equipment was instrumental in honing my skills and passion for the field.

Driven by a hunger for challenge and learning, I ventured to Alaska to explore remote work environments and expand my expertise. I am committed to continuous growth and development in my profession, embodying a philosophy of "go big or go home".

I began my journey at SMI as the Office Manager of our Dillingham location. Born and raised in Dillingham, I relocated with my husband to Anchorage to pursue higher education at UAA. Following my studies, I served as a nurse in both Anchorage and the Valley. Eventually, our family decided to return to Dillingham to be closer to my extended family. Upon our return, I worked as a nurse at Kanakanak Hospital before transitioning to an office-based role.

Driven by a passion for learning, I completed a second degree from UAF in Dillingham, further enhancing my skill set.

Outside of work, I cherish time spent fishing, camping, and exploring the outdoors with my family. Whether it's attending local school sporting events or embarking on family adventures, I find joy in creating lasting memories with my loved ones.
